Ive been lifting for 5 months faithfully now, should I rest soon or what?

Ive been lifting weights hard and faithfuly for about 5 months 4-5 nights a week now. I overheard somewhere that if you have been lifting that long you should take a 1 week rest break. If this is true I should start my rest break this week aye?
