Should children on long haul flights be made to travel in a soundproof box in the hold?

I have just spent 15 hours on a flight from Toronto to Hong Kong next to a screaming brat that wailed for almost the entire trip. Is it not time that airlines started offering adults-only flights? Smoking was banned on flights years ago, yet it seems that it's fine for parents to bring on board a squalling infant.
